Why We Celebrate Christmas...

Because Jesus is the Reason for the Season!
---
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. -Luke 2:8-20

Christmas Time!

Hello Everyone!
Last week our family took a quick trip up the mountain, down a pass, a quick hike, and finally we cut down our Christmas tree! We've had no snow this winter so we were pretty excited to see so much snow! Below are a few of my favorite pictures and then a slide show of most of the pictures taken.

Once getting the car De-De was pretty cold... Can you tell?

It's so amazing to see the half frozen water falls. Daddy stopped the car for me two times to take a picture of them. This was the best:
Here is another one. We all liked this one so much that we...

...all climbed up it! The ice was very slippery, but the middle part of the fall thankfully had shallow water.

10 Things I Learned Through Raising Turkeys

It's almost hard to imagine that the delicious looking meat you see in the picture was actually running around in our yard a few months ago!

One of my dreams was to raise my own turkey for Thanksgiving dinner... Finally around April 2009 I asked my Daddy if I could raise turkeys this year. He said yes!

Somethings I learned about turkeys were:

1) When they get mad at you they turn red.

2) They are excellent weed eaters.

3) They like to take baths in their drinking water.

4) They eat a TON of food & drink LOTS of water.

5) They die easily.

6) They are easy to catch (once you get them cornered).

7) Unlike roosters, toms are not mean.

8) They like to eat grass.

9) Turkeys and rainy days do not mix.

10) If they decide to... they may never do a "turkey gobble" (or at least mine never did)...

I loved raising turkeys and I hope to raise more and sell some next year!

A Violin Recital!

After many an hour of practice, practice, and PRACTICE! I finally was able to perform in this year's violin recital with my wonderful violin teacher Elizabeth Knopp! We played the first movement from Concerto for Two Violins in D minor by J.S. Bach.

I hope you enjoy the pictures as much I enjoy your enjoyment of viewing these enjoyable pictures! (By the way: A big round of applause to Shiloh for taking all these pictures-except for the first one!)

------------------------

A few weeks before the recital Eden snapped this picture of me.

The day is finally here!
Here Elizabeth and I are rehearsing, while Jordan waits... and waits...
Now, the real thing! Taking our bow.
And GO!!!
Note: I'm probably smiling because I know that Jordan and I made cookies the day before... and well, you know what that means!

Did I get a speeding ticket from playing this?!

My great accompanist Jordan. (I sure had to pay a lot to have him play with me!)

Jordan, Me, and Elizabeth.

My teacher and I. Thank you for being such an amazing teacher, Elizabeth!

Jordan and Judah-looking dapper!

My wonderful family. It's because of them and Jesus Christ that it is possible for me to take lessons! I love you all!

And the final bow!!! (I just had to do my special flourish to acknowledge Jordan!)

Note by Jordan: Regardless of paying me a lot of money to play, it must be noted that Bethany threatened to fire me, even to the day of!!

The Men & The Ladies & A Movie Clip...

Recently we went to a Fire Department Awards Banquet...

Of course we took lots of wonderful pictures (especially since everyone was dressed semi-formal)...

Here is Judah (with Daddy's FD dress hat), Daddy Dear, and Jordan (with his new glasses):

Here are the ladies...

Shiloh (yes, nearly as tall as Mommy), Mommy Dear, Bethany (very happy), & Eden (simply always De-De)!

At nearly every formal Fire event I've ever been to they always have the Scottish Bagpipe players! This time Bethany filmed it. Near the end of the film (as the bagpipes players leave) you can see Judah and I (I am in a green shirt/black skirt and am holding Judah). I always enjoy hearing the bagpipes and I know the rest of us did too! Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!

The Legend of the Blue Marker

Lately we’ve noticed that when ever Judah comes down stairs after his time with Bethany in the morning his hands are stained dark blue all over. We decided not to worry too much about it when one sister mentioned that we girls have a quite a store of colored markers in our room. Fast-forward to a few days later… Again Judah is up in the girl’s room, but this time a friendly sister decided to pay him a visit. After playing sometime Judah mentioned to his big sister that she had “blue on her face”… After checking in a nearby mirror, Judah did indeed prove to be correct. Blue marker on sister’s face… Conclusion of the Legend: Keep clear of little brother’s blue stained hands… or wash his hands before playing!

Little Brothers… Gotta love them!

Farm News

Recently, we had a sick goat who went down on Nov. 22, 2009 due to parasites (70 strongyle and 90 cocsidia). On Monday we called the Vet and he came out, took a sample, gave her some shots, and prescribed some medicine. Bethany has been giving the doe all the oral Cocsidia medicine and "paste" and I'm in charge of all the daily IMs (which is an Intramuscular Injection). We give her 1.5cc of the vitamin B everyday since the 23rd of November--you do the math... Actually, I know how many shots I've given because I've been recording this! The Vet gave her a steroid which perked her up and I have since given her another steroid shot as well as a few pain medication shots! Right now she is still down even though we've been faithfully giving her all the meds and physical therapy (which Bethany has now taken over so I can primarily take care the rest of the herd). We appreciate your prayer and we hope our doe gets better soon! Below are some pictures of the shots. Beware! These are not pretty pictures for the faint in heart!

---

Measuring the dosage:
Can you believe that I have to go through two bottles? I can't wait until they are empty!
My favorite size of a needle: 18x1A... Can you guess why?
Enough shots for the next 19 days:

Bagged and ready to go in the refrigerator:

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens
. ~Proverbs 27:23; 26-27

Homemade Ice-Skating

We had Freezing Rain last night so we went "Ice-Skating"! Besides a few too many falls (and complaints of bloody knees, hurt shoulders, etc. )... overall it was fun! In the video below Jordan and De-De demonstrate how well it worked!

Going to the Fire Station

Hi there! If you haven't heard from me in a while, it's because I haven't had anything to say... But now I do!

The other day, we took Judah to the fire station because Daddy had to pick something up.

On the way.

standing on the siren.

I love his expression in this picture!

Do you think these headphones are a little too big?

On the way home we saw Judah's good friend Rosy.
